The roar of the bus as it took on the steep grade of the camp driveway announce that RFKC Boise had officially started. As is the tradition for RFKC, each child is announced as they depart the bus, amidst the cheers of counselors and staff members. There was a new twist this year, each name was called out with a bullhorn by staff member Jon. The bullhorn definitely added more excitement to the whole affair.
Some of the campers spent their first day hunting Dragonflies down at the pond and of course they had to build bug boxes first in case they
caught anything. The afternoon was topped off with swimming and kayaking down at the lake.
This evening was devoted to handing out quilts to first time RFKC campers. These quilts are made by the Project Linus organization. This group has been faithfully supplying our campers with beautiful handmade quilts for a number of years now. Children who had received them in prior years told us how they have cherish their quilts. Regardless of the temperature, the camper sleep snuggled in their quilts all week.
I think one of our new little campers summed the day up best. As he made a leap into the lake swimming area he shouted, "This is AWESOME!"
